Vogue

So my 24th birthday is coming up and I couldn't be more excited!!!!!! Turning 24 is symbolizing more than just another birthday it's me actually becoming a young adult woman.  Being completely independent and figuring things out for myself all the while living in New York City.

Tonight I came across a piece of artwork that I now just have to own someday.  It is so me.  The colors, the model, the thought in it...all me; feminine, sophisticated, and intricate.  The artwork is a cover from Vogue from April 1st, 1923. Available in a large canvas size, this would be the perfect compliment to my new lifestyle, and besides I absolutely love that I was able to find a cover from MY birthday!

However, being that it's the large canvas version I would understand that it's a little pricy for a birthday.  Next year is my 25th birthday and I think this would be the PERFECT gift.

So mom...if you are reading this post...wink wink. ;)
I mean c'mon...vintage Vogue-does it get any better?

To Have and To Hold

So between my best friend Chelsea and my cube-mate at work there is going to be a lot of wedding talk coming up.  I am soo excited to help both these lovely ladies plan for their big days.  Natasha (cube-mate) is renewing her vows with her hubby of 10 years, in October, and wants a fun, playful, short dress instead of a long gown.  I was giving her some suggestions and taking the advice of Jo and Emily, I introduced her to BHLDN.  So cute.  I was head over heels for their dresses.  It made me even more excited to see my friend walk down the isle this October.

The Weekend Update

I am so excited to finally have the weekend here.  Last night I was in bed and asleep by 11pm (and anyone who even knows me in the slightest knows that this is rare for me and only happens once in a blue moon).  But I have to say I woke up today around 8:30 and felt so refreshed.  It was incredible.

Today I am headed out for a run.  It is so sunny in New York right now and the birds are chirping.  The street that I live on doesn't get a ton of hustle and bustle between people running their errands, so it's a nice calm Saturday morning.  My roommate went to Staten Island to visit family this weekend so I have the apartment to myself.  Which could be a great thing except for the fact that I get my energy from people around me.  With this being said after the run I am headed into the city.  It's so hard for me to go a weekend without the city.  It's funny because sometimes I feel like I'm, subconsciously, betraying the city.  Not my intent NY I just get busy with other things.

Later today, I am meeting up with the Alumni group for my sorority for a book culb meeting.  I am a bit skeptical as these women could quite possibly be nearing 80 years old.  I guess I should have asked for a demographic report on the group, when I sent the e-mail requesting to come.  haha.

Sunday I am headed to brunch in the West Village with some co-workers of mine.  Girls who I have become really good friends with.  We have finally decided to start hanging out outside of work! So excited.

Potato and scallion waffles with poached eggs and pesto hollandaise sauce!
Amazing!!!

It should be a great weekend!!! It's supposed to rain tomorrow, but I can't find a better solution than staying inside brunching with unlimited Sangria, Mimosas, and Bloody Mary's!  I hope all of you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Take care,
Blair

What Happened to Personal Communication?

The newest edition to the Apple family...the iPad2.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for texting, instant messaging, e-mailing, Facebooking, etc, but when it comes to technology it sometimes rubs me the wrong way when I hear about new updates.  I think more than anything it just makes me sad to think that our society has become so consumed with the fact that new technology is always coming out.  Everyone wants to have the latest and the greatest.  What kind of message does it say when we see those who are struggling and are on food stamps but are carrying their iPhone 4G?  Shouldn't they put the $30+/month into food for their kids instead of the latest and the greatest?

What will our communication styles be like in 10 years? First it was the telephone.  Then came the internet and remember when instant messaging started...AOL, MSN...and then Myspace emerged...creating the FACEBOOK travesty.  I call this a travesty because immediately upon checking my personal e-mail I go straight to Facebook.  Like I can't wait for the next status update or I secretly want to look at the pictures of the newest baby being born.  (Being from the midwest most of the people I know are now getting engaged, getting married, and then having babies). It has become one big baby book...filled with pictures of kids dressed up in cute animal hats.  Believe me! I am extremely guilty of this; I am constantly on Facebook and have been checking it religously for the past 5 years since I was accepted into college and received a college e-mail address.  It used to be only accessible to those who were in school.  Now anyone and everyone has it.  I almost respect people more for not having it.

With all this technological communication I have become a huge fan of handwritten letters.  As a sucker for anything Papyrus I love the satisfaction and joy I receive knowing I will brighten one of my friend's days with a handwritten letter; telling them how much I appreciate them or just that I love them and I am so glad they are in my life.  So as I step off my soapbox, please note I am definitely not opposed to the newest technology, but think that it would be nice if our world focused more on what we have rather than what we want.  Even if more people texted less and talked more...I think that would be a huge step!

To Braid or Not to Braid...

Thanks Fashionista for advising us that there will in defintely be an attack of the braid! Excited for this trend, though, because it is the BEST solution to extending one's wash an extra day or two.  : )
