And No.1 goes to
Lea Michelle, Glee

I love this Oscar De La Renta, navy tafeta dress!!!  I love how Lea chose to take a risk by wearing navy to the red carpet and then proceeds to look STUNNING in it.  The ruffles at the bottom accentuate the mermaid cut so well, along with the gathering on her left side.  Very slimming.  However, I would have had her hair pulled back to add sophistication and elegance.

No. 2 goes to...
January Jones, Mad Men

I love how this dress has gotten so many mixed reviews.  It really is one of those love it or hate it kind of dresses.  With it's texturing and very attentive detailing the lights from the red carpet, just sparkled on her.  With Mad Men receiving Best drama I thought it was fitting for her to wear a dramatic dress.

No. 3 is...

Heidi Klum, Project Runway

Wearing this black mini dress after having 4 children is something most women cannot do.  So props to Heidi for looking INCREDIBLE and pulling off this Marchesa mini!  Absolutely loving her choice of the spiked Christian Loubouitins and Loraine Schwartz jewelry.  Great job Heidi!

No. 4.....

Julie Benz, Dexter

This one-shoulder cut-out dress is amazing.  I love when white is worn to a red carpet event because the white color contrasted with the red carpet stands out so well!  This Pamela Roland dress is so elegant.  The fitted silhouette reminds me of a classic Emmy/Awards dress, but the cut-out on the right hip adds just a touch of trend and edge.

No. 5...

Claire Danes

This dress didn't pop out to me.  Besides the fact that it had Swarovski crystals embodying the entire dress the strapless neckline made it seem like any other dress.  I would have loved to see Claire push the envelope a little more.  However, the dress is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but the neckline was the deal breaker for me.

There you have it...my top 5 Emmy gown choices! Enjoy!

Back

Well, I'm finally back in NYC.  I can't even believe it, but as I was slugging my enormous bags up the steps into the doorway there awaited my very excited roommate dressed in the same outfit!

 Denim Chambray rompers!

FATE? I think so.

It is going to be a very interesting couple of months, to say the least, and I couldn't be happier and more excited for them, if I were to have just won a Grammy for my amazing singing skills.

But in the words of  my new roomie...

"Take each day one at a time.  If today you decide you want that ice cream cone, you go and run to that ice cream cart and get it!"

Fall's Top Ten

I received an e-mail today informing me on the Top 10 trends of Fall.  Here is the list and my picks for each.  Also, please keep in mind that because I'm a girl on a budget, all the pieces are under $100.  Enjoy.

1. Over-The-Knee Boots (OTK Boots)

Diba-OTK Boots-$98.00

2. Military

Twelve by Twelve from Forever21-Military Tipped Sweater-$32.00

I love because I'm not so much a fan of the olive green on me, personally, I like blacks and other neutrals.  I love how this sweater is classic yet trendy.  The military details are great, but the pale pink color and white buttons add for a classic feel. Very me.  :)

3. Lace-up Boots

Madden Girl Sing Sing Bootie- DSW.com- $49.95.

Now THIS is more like it.  I know it's NOT a lace-up but I've never been one for the lace-up boot anyways.  Also, being on a budget I have learned that you sometimes have to modify the trend. Make it work for you, so for me, this strappy buckle shoe is great.  There is still the lacy detail and I love the chunky heel, because walking the streets of New York can be very hard on the shoes.  The foldover is great as well.  By purchasing this shoe I'm killing two birds with one stone!

4. Vintage Details

Forever 21-$9.80                                $4.80

5. Skinny Cords-----ehh....let's not even go there! I'm a curvy girl and the only cords I owned were in high school and since then have been retired!

6. Faux Fur

Already own a faux fur jacket! :) This is my bf and I looking into each other's eyes before our crush dance. haha...our dates took the picture!

7. Blanket Sweaters

Love this cardigan from Piperlime.com-LA Made Pearl Cardigan-$77.00

8. Spat Boots (AKA foldover boots)

DSW-Dollhouse Dolle Bootie-$49.95
Love love love!!!

9. Saddie Bags

Fossil-Piperlime.com $98.00

I am obsessed with this bag.  The wide straps and brushed buckles make for a sturdy bag.  Great for roaming my new city!

10. Feminine Jewels
So I googled feminine jewels and this is what I got:

However, I already own one of these as well. My grandma passed two down to me. Pictures to come I am currently with a dead camera.
This bracelet is called a slave bracelet.
Hmmm...can we rename this. Ironic that a piece of feminine jewelry is titled slave...

well, these are just some food for thought for fall! MODIFY if you would like... :) I will be!

This day is finally here and now my life can begin.  Coming from a small town I now know how to work hard and appreciate the small things, but being in the city for a year and leaving,  I felt like I was being kidnapped from my love!

We shall reunite NYC...just you wait!

Feelin' HOT HOT HOT!!!

Olé!!! Happy Monday everyone and to kick off my week I decided to make some FRESH homemade salsa. Enjoy!

7 ripe & juicy tomatoes
1/3 small onion
small bunch fresh cilantro
some hot chilies

1. Clean and cut up tomatoes. Slice the top off and remove the core
2. Peel each tomato and scrape out insides and place into a colander to drain excess juices.
To peel a tomato: Using a serrated knife cut right below the skin and make a section to grab onto. Pull back peeling away the skin. Do this until all the skin is removed.

3. Finely chop drained tomatoes with a serrated knife. Continue to squeeze the juices out with your hands before placing into a dish
4. Chop up onion and cilantro into fine pieces.
5. Combine into tomatoes and stir until everything is mixed together.
6. Add chilies or your own variation of spice to give it another kick
7. Place on top of tortilla chips or tostada and enjoy!

Out with the Old...In with the New

Before

All the "stuff" I removed

So last week I decided to completely get rid of all of the "stuff" that has piled up in my life over the past 8 years. This includes but is not limited to the following: sorority paraphernalia, trash, broken jewelry, old papers to keep, silly picture frames, and so much more. I decided to start with my desk and after some intense cleaning I now have a beautiful desk that is dusted and cleaned out and with the extra space I was able to make a jewelry armoire.

The NEW desk...note the button dish in the far Left

While cleaning, I did find one thing that really made me smile, and that was my very own button dish. For my high school graduation I received a dish with antique and ornate detail. It's not really my style, but then after cleaning and finding a million random buttons, I decided to combine the two and make a button dish. I also feel that 1. every girl needs a button dish in her life and 2. it shouldn't be something modern or even match the style of your life. I really feel like it should reflect who you are and where you have come from. For me that would be coming from a SMALL town in Indiana being raised on conservative values. As I make my move to the big city I will definitely be taking my button dish with me to remind me of where I have come from and who I was and bring me back down to earth.

The finished product!

As I finished the challenge of my room I realized how refreshed I felt. It was like closing a book from my life thus far and starting a new one. The new one being my life post-graduation and my journey as I enter the real world. Throwing all of my "stuff" away felt symbolic as I packed up my previous memories and now have a clean slate and new canvas to color a brand new world onto. Throughout the whole process it was incredible to go back and remember all of the adventures I had while growing up, and now...2 trash bags later I am ready to start my own life and make the new memories that will come with it!
