city thoughts...

I've always been a fan of symbolism and looking at the ways my life is symbolic to the experiences/events going on around me.

For example: the lack of writing between my last two posts is very symbolic to my life in the past month. I wasn't writting becaue I felt completely uninspired and felt used up. It was also a way to avoid the reality that my life may not have been the most exciting at the time. I know that life doesn't always give us sunshine and roses. Sometimes we get cloudy days. Not updating the blog was a way for me to mask my cloudy days to everyone back home.

Writing can also feel like eating my vegetables or going to church. I know I should do it but don't  always want to. Sometimes it's not the most fun thing to do, at the moment, but it never fails...in the end I always feel so much better after I followed through with either going to church or eating healthier.  Once I get back into my writing I feel so much better. I am able to really digest everything life is throwing at me and in such a chaotic city it gives me a sense of peace and understanding within my own experiences.  I can step back and really look at the big picture instead of the minute details therefore staying more true to my own thoughts and desires.

Going through the motions of daily life can be overwhelming. We all need to find some way to unleash and release all the negative energy. It's healthy. It's necessary. It's good for us.  Some people unleash by going to the gym, others drink, some meditate and do yoga.  For me...well I have to write.  So the next time you're not sure of where life is going to take you...just stop and step back.  Listen to your own heart and your own desires and continue to be true to yourself.

Wow! I never thought I could go so long without writing.  However the past month has been quite the obstacle/adventure for me.

The month of April was full of excitement and birthdays.  My birthday kicked off the month and then two weeks later it was my dear friend Molly's birthday.  It was so good to get together with all of our friends for a nice Italian dinner at a small restaurant in the east village and then another birthday celebration at The Standard Bier Garten in the Meatpacking district, on Friday night.

This past month at work has been the reason I haven't been posting.  The beginning of April brought promotions and everything at work was changing.  Just when I was becoming comfortable with things at work and feeling a sense of peace the city threw me a curve ball.  Quite the curve actually.  Between the late nights and the early mornings the energy I had left was used to prepare for my upcoming race!  It's almost like being stuck between a rock and a hard place, with work.  I know that things will get better but it's really making me question where I'm at.  Not locationally.  Just career wise.  I'm not exactly sure that buying is the field I would like to go into.  More and more I am considering/thinking about public relations and what it would be like if I were to enter that world.  How would I even go about getting into it after being on the merchandising side of things?  I guess my decision right now has been to just stick work out until I hit my one year mark and then re-evaluate the position I am in.

Ok, well enough venting.  I think the solution to all of this will be to stick out the year, get through the summer, and continue to pray.

The Weekend Update

Happy Saturday!!!!

I started the day with a very restful sleep, courtesy of my new bed pillows from Macy's.

Followed by a much needed cup of joe...well 2 to be exact

a little blogging

a Saturday run

and some laundry time.

Sounds like it's going to be a great day!

I hope you all enjoy your weekends as much as I do.  I have never really understood the saying "working for the weekends" until I graduated and was thrown into this game called, Real Life! :)

Spring has definitely sprung in NYC.  The weeks are filled with rainy days while walking to work  and the weekends are sunny; usually in the mid 50s.

This weekend the plans are a bit more chill than others...I'm saving my money, sanity, and health for when the weather gets super nice and I want to be sitting on a sidewalk cafe all weekend with friends!

Last night was a night in with Hulu.com and some leftover Chinese food!

Today I listed above, but it will be filled with just the weekend errands.

Tomorrow: shopping for my birthday present, grocery shopping, and MAKING myself to go yoga.  I have been so bad lately about going, but now I have no reason to not go... I bought a yoga mat last weekend! :) So excited to try it out!

I hope you all are well!

City Ventures

My favorite window!

One of my favorite things about this city is that I can go anywhere at anytime of the day and run into something new.  I love going to places I'm unfamiliar with and explore the area.  My love for this city never ceases to amaze me.

Here are some pictures from the windows at Bergdorf's this spring!

The Strand! It's a store that is 18 miles of books!

Flower Power

The other day I actually walked down to the Macy's store, considering I work for Macys.com we hardly venture down to the actual brick and mortar, but anyways right now going on until April 10th is the annual Macy's Flower Show.  The entire first floor is FULL of blooming beauties.  From roses and gerber daisies to tulips and carnations.  They  are arranged in such a beautiful presentation.  Here are some pictures from my journey through the garden.

The BIRTHDAY Weekend Update

Absolutely love the aesthetics and look of this cake by Martha Stewart.
Kids-Ruffle cake by Martha Stewart

Well, it has been FOREVER since I have written last, but I have to say I haven't forgotten about you.  So the day finally arrived when I TURNED 24!!! I woke up to my sweet mother calling me and wishing me Happy Birthday.  Then when I arrived at work the girls had gotten me a bunch of balloons and cupcakes from Crumbs bakery in Manhattan.  Later during the day we had a small celebration in the kitchen of our floor and then proceeded to continue the festivities with happy hour!

Today I did a little birthday shopping and teated myself to some lavender oil from Whole Foods Body and my very own yoga mat.  So excited to try it out at yoga tomorrow.

Then tomorrow is brunch!!! As you probably have figured out...I LOVE BRUNCH!!! It's probably one of my favorite things about NYC.  And I'm also even more of a fan of brunch on Sundays rather than on Saturdays.  It just seems more fitting to me.  So a bunch of my friends and I are headed to Philip Marie in the West Village for some laughter and champagne cocktails.  Can't wait!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this birthday so special!!! I love you all so very much and feel so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.

My desk when I walked into work!

Cupcakes and a new Papayrus Journal!

Vogue

So my 24th birthday is coming up and I couldn't be more excited!!!!!! Turning 24 is symbolizing more than just another birthday it's me actually becoming a young adult woman.  Being completely independent and figuring things out for myself all the while living in New York City.

Tonight I came across a piece of artwork that I now just have to own someday.  It is so me.  The colors, the model, the thought in it...all me; feminine, sophisticated, and intricate.  The artwork is a cover from Vogue from April 1st, 1923. Available in a large canvas size, this would be the perfect compliment to my new lifestyle, and besides I absolutely love that I was able to find a cover from MY birthday!

However, being that it's the large canvas version I would understand that it's a little pricy for a birthday.  Next year is my 25th birthday and I think this would be the PERFECT gift.

So mom...if you are reading this post...wink wink. ;)
I mean c'mon...vintage Vogue-does it get any better?
