The Weekend Update

The Birthday Girl!!!!
Our Labor Day Brunch!
Trying to get back into it, here is the current Weekend Update for the Holiday Weekend.

So Friday night was spent in Brooklyn with old friends from the past. Our good friends Nicola and Zach just moved to Williamsburg in Brooklyn and were having a Hawaiian themed Housewarming Party.

Saturday, I woke up and went for a run through Little Italy and Soho.  It was sunny and a little bit windy outside and after the run, had a great talk with my mom while perusing in and out of little stores.  Ann Taylor LOFT has some great finds right now...too bad the funds aren't there.   In the afternoon Kelly and I went to the 2nd birthday party for her goddaughter Zoë!  She is getting so big!

Sunday I finally got back into the gym and then went to church later in the day.  Post the activities of the day I went and saw The Help.  Soooo good.  I HIGHLY recommend this movie to any woman in the world.

I awoke today, after sleeping in, to Kelly whipping up a big batch of omelets served on rye...soo good.  I made coffee for everyone and then our friend Lauren came over with a nice big, chilled, bottle of champagne!  We sat in Kelly's room and had a little brunch picnic!!!! A couple other friends came over later in the day!!! So great to see everybody!!!  Later today I think I'm going to hit the gym and see what's going on at the Bloomie's Labor Day Sales!!!

Ok, well that's all for now...

Hurricane Irene

This past weekend was spent completely inside the tiny apartment with my roommate Kelly and the guy she's dating.  The three of us quickly prepared for Hurricane Irene to come and make her appearance in NYC.

Friday night i went out and bough flashlights and extra toilet paper and freezer bags and prepare the apartment to be blown away by a hurricane!  I filled 18 freezer bags with water and then placed them in the freezer so that if our power went out we would have water to drink and a way to keep our food cold.

Throughout the storm we decided to cook as if it was our last meal.  Saturday morning we got up and whipped up eggs and toast with mimosas and Irish Coffee.

The rest of the day was just waiting for Irene's arrival.  We decided to get out of the apartment and go to a local bar, near our apartment, and get a couple of drinks to pass the time.  So fun!!!

Overall Hurricane Irene was a lot of money for the preparations and a little disappointing in her end result.  She hardly came to NY.  All we really got was a lot of rain and some light wind.  Not that big of a deal.  This event just proved my love for NY even more.  At one point Mayor Bloomberg stated, "I mean we're New Yorkers...we can get through anything"

And it's so true!

Thank you for all of the prayers and blessings from back home!

In Trend

Anyone who tells you summer in NY is the best time of the year, is lying! It's one of the worst.  Okay, not the WORST, but definitely not the BEST!!!! :)  It's dirtier, SO unbelievably hot and sticky, and more expensive.  Therefore....given that fall is sooo close...I am TRENDING FALL.

One thing about me is that I truly feel that my nail color can predict the weather (or so I hope).  This week I was trending nothing but fall colors.  I have brought out my marigold driving mocs, more this week, than any other week.  My nails were a beautiful burgandy (Vamp by Chanel and Chinchilly by Essie) and low and behold...the weather has FINALLY cooled down!!!!!!

This week, I challenge you all to pick something for fall that you can start trending.  Or if you are still into summer....ROCK it!!! I reccommend Turqs and Caicos by Essie or the beautiful purples by OPI.  Some of my faves!

Happy weekend everyone!

The S.M.P.

My one-year is rapidly approaching me and I couldn't be more excited.  I'm currently sitting in a sweet little coffee shop outside of my [new] apartment working on updating my resume for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead of me.

To start this exciting journey, I re-read my Self Marking Plan that I set in place two years ago.  While reading my SMP, I realized that a lot of what was written into it has already been accomplished. Two years ago I was writing a paper for an internship class that I was required to take at FIT...little did I know that I was writing my future.  I was able to sit with a pen and cross things off.  It's also crazy that now I'm ready to start the next marketing plan for my life.  I say this because as I was reading and nearing the end, I realized that what I listed as my "next steps" were where I am currently at in my career.

Today, I was able to step up to the plate and really discover what I'm capable of.  It was one of the most refreshing feelings that I have had since moving to New York.  I will never forget the feeling I received upon stepping out of the plane and into the Laguardia airport, only to move in with friends and figure it out.  The lost, hopeful, and driven feeling that I felt is so indescribable and also one of the most refreshing feelings I've ever felt.  Since then my life has taken so many turns and tumbles along the way, but in the end has been a life that I have lived.  It's been completely on my own and fully funded by my own hard earnings.  Every tear that I've shed has been for ME.

I can't tell you how great that feels.  With my one-year approaching I can only look back on the year and just, "count my blessings."

Ok...enough for now.

Mr. Moisturizer

SK-II advertisement with Cate Blanchett...;)

Since moving into the city, I started dating again!!! Hooray for lovers. ha.  Well anyways, I recently went on a date with this guy who I met through a friend at work.  So the thing about me is that I can really talk to ANYONE who is willing to take the time to listen to me...the unfortunate thing with this is that the guy thinks that we have a "connection" when really I'm just diggin' the fact that he's willing to put up with my chatter.

I was excited for the date.  The guy was 28 so I thought I would be going out for drinks with this really mature/posh man.  Well ladies...I'm beginning to think/realize what my mother has been trying to tell me for years, that men are all the same, no matter what their age is.  The date started with him picking me up in his BMW outside of my apartment...now first off...WHO HAS A CAR in Manhattan??? ....seriously?  Anyways, so we got to the restaurant and ordered some drinks and started the "interesting' conversation.  Throughout the date he was REALLY nice and a great guy but there were two things that I noticed.  1.) He LOVES facial moisturizers.  So much that he wanted to discuss the SK-II collection in great detail. 2.) He was really looking for more of a "buddy," someone to hang with rather than someone to date.  I mean the man talked about his love for the Yankees more than I talk about shoes and clothing.

So...needless to say...we won't be going out again anytime soon.  With that being said....I'm still on the market and the search continues on.  :)

For now...

Based on the collections from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters...I'm thinking the color of the season is going to be a splash of this beautifully elegant and timeless petal pink.
