Goals for Summer

Well school is over and I am now a college graduate living at home. :( Still looking for a job I have decided I need to get my act together. Unfortunately, this past year was very disappointing, to myself, because I developed some lazy habits that definitely need to be broken. With summer quickly approaching, I have decided that it's time to start getting back into shape and back into a healthier me!

My new plan for Summer includes the following,

1. Cut back on the amounts of meat I eat. Become vegetarian again!
Last year, when in NYC, I, cold-turkey, cut meat out of my diet. It was great. I felt better, had more energy, and became healthier. I was pretty good about this for 9 months.
2. Start running at least 3x/wk & working out MORE!
I used to be really good about working out. When in high school I was always conscious of staying in shape, in college I would attend the gym at least 1 or 2 times a week. This past semester I hardly worked out at all. :(
3. Save money for NYC
If August comes, and I haven't found a job in NYC yet, I am taking the risk and moving out to NYC. I will find someway to make everything work and really have no plan at this point, but I know I will need money to do it.

Remember when...

My friend Katie from FIT came to visit
The best way to describe Breakfast Club

Back in the day, when I was one of the world's biggest Hanson fans (otherwise known as a MO CLUB MEMBER) I never thought that one day, I would be jammin' out to "Mmmbop" on a Saturday morning, drinking screwdrivers with my best friends, in costume, one week before I'm done with school. This recent memory will stay with me for the rest of my life. What a perfect way to kick off my last week of school...FOREVER.

Lights, Camera, ACTION!!!

Grace Kelly Marilyn Monroe & James Dean

-Danny Kaye

What happened to the theater? Nothing, it only continued to grow and expand to become this wonderful break for society. This quote is taken from the movie, White Christmas, and I thought of it when I was starting to think about this post. In White Christmas, Danny Kaye is referring to the fact that instead of just good ol' fashioned theater, with singers and jokes and performers, the theater was now being replaced with choreography. Choreographed dances that revolutionized modern dance, with the help of Martha Graham. But thankfully, the theater didn't disappear.

It all started a little before 1920, as films were created to be a form of entertainment for people. After the Roaring 20s hit the movie industry was increasing. The movies were still, however, silent films. It wasn't until 1930 hit, when "The Golden Age of Hollywood" really took its course. More and more studios were trying to produce movies to bring an escape for people due to all of the turmoil in the country. The depression hit everyone hard, but if given the opportunity, they were able to leave their poor, depressed, and struggling lives to enjoy a world where everybody falls in love and the good guy always wins.

There are very few movies out there that have a sad ending. I believe that the reason is because people still use movies to get away from their own lives and put themselves in the shoes of the characters they are watching.

I have been noticing that as I near graduation and deal with the nerves that come with that, I tend to find someway to relate to the characters that I am watching. Whether it be a tv show, an old musical (which if you ask anyone, would have to be my favorite, and I may or may not even sometimes watch them with the closed captioning on so that I can sing along when it come time for the songs), or even a simple teenage movie. I find it intriguing to think about my life, right now, and then the situation the character is going through and compare the two. I oftentimes become too involved in it, that I become more emotional than I should, and a normal tear jerker, could be the break in the bend, and a waterfall of tears comes pouring out of me.

Therefore, with all of this being said, enjoy your movies. Don't become too stressed (I know I put this in every post, but I think I do it to continuously remind myself), and know that if things aren't going your way, you can always escape with a 2-hour break to watch a movie. So grab some popcorn, hit the lights, and enjoy the show!

Times of Transition

I recently read a post by one of my favorites, about experiencing Paris, in New York City. Now for those who have been fortunate enough to experience this wonderful city, you know that it isn't hard to go to a different spot or location, may it be a cafe, a new boutique, or a single street, to experience a completely different culture. However, reading Kelly's post made me start thinking....a couple weeks ago, I was in Florida enjoying the beautiful sunshine and warm weather and it made me so happy, but now I'm back in Indiana, only to wake up to a sunny 35 degree, Monday morning. Not the ideal location to live in, but this is where I'm at in my stage of life. I have to make the best of it.

After moving back from New York City, last May, during the car ride home, I felt like I was being kidnapped and taken to a whole different world. I was then put in my hometown of Nappanee, IN for the summer, to lifeguard and work at a health club. I can definitely tell you this, after living in NYC for a year, working for Chanel & Tracy Reese, and going to one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the country, I felt a little demoted. However, once again I had to make the best of it.

Life is FULL of transitions and changes. That's what makes it interesting and exciting, wondering what will come next. So while I don't have control of my life and not knowing what to expect in the next few months ahead of me, I have tried to find certain things everyday that give me great joy.

So here is my recipe:
-2 cups of coffee before 11am (everyday)
-Continually reading the New York Times, to feel a part of that wonderful city
-A new fashion magazine every once and a while
-New music on my iPod: currently loving a Coldplay/Rhianna playlist
-Friends & Family to keep me grounded
-a good run on a sunny spring afternoon around campus!

Therefore, if you feel like you are "in transition" know you're not alone. Know that it will be okay and things will work out. You just have to have faith! Faith in yourself! So I'm leaving you with the famous words of Mr. Marley, "Don't worry, about a thing, cuz everylittle thing is gonna be alright!"

This Just In...

Everybody loves a juicy scandalous story every now an then. We all loved the Britney Spears comeback, there is Celebrity Rehab witDr. Drew for those who need it 24/7 on VH1, and I will never forget AW Fashion Week 2009 when my friend Katie came rushing into my room stating the controversy with Yigal Azrouel's show and the unexpected Ashley Dupre arrival, causing everyone to focus on her and not his collection. However, March 2010's news deals with Terry Richardson and his love for the younger models is definitely an interesting one.

According to one of my main news sources, for fashion, Fashionista.com, one of Richardson's former models Rie Rasmussen stated at the end of Paris fashion week, "He takes girls who are young, manipulates them to take their clothes off and takes pictures of them they will be ashamed of." This statement by Rasmussen and another one from model Jamie Peck, have not yet been taken to court, but people are already starting to talk.

I just find it "a little bit ironic, don't ya think" that nudity in fashion is considered art, but when a man working in fashion begins to look at it in a sexual way it becomes a scandal. What about Andy Warhol? He was sometimes considered a "horndog"...I'm just saying.

I apologize for this being controversial or out of the norm for me, just thought I would share my thoughts.

Lanvin Anyone???

As I was perusing the "Look of the Day" courtesy of Instyle.com, I came accross SJP's acid-yellow Lanvin dress. I love the look of the one-shoulder, which adds great detail to the dress in addition to showing off Parker's toned shoulders. The nude pumps are a great finish to the dress, knowing this color may be hard to wear.

Sing us a song, Mr. Piano Man....

After, many weeks of no new posts I am finally writing again!!!!!

So latest iPod addition is Billy Joel. Random, I know, but I love his classic songs. "Only The Good Die Young", "Still Rock-n-Roll to Me", and the true classic "Piano Man." This song will always be dear to my heart, because during the past four years I would sing it every fall during the Purdue University Football Season at 9:00am on a Saturday morning to jump start the day!

I love how upbeat his music is and can't get enough of it as I walk to class. I always wonder to myself what other people listen to on their iPod. When working out for guys it's usually angry heavy metal or hard rock music, for girls it's usually what's popular at the time. However, when walking to class what do people listen to? The best is when you have your iPod on shuffle and the most random song plays when you least expect it. It's almost kind of like life, in the sense that some things just randomly pop up when you least expect it and they usually end up working out in your favor.
